James was born in Neiva, Colombia; the city famous for its coffee. He began his dance career very early on; winning a Lambada competition at just 5 years old! He then went on to study Dance at “La Casa de la Cultura” where he mastered Contradanza, Bambuco, Cumbia and San Juaneros, all traditional folkloric Colombian dances. It was here where he also dedicated himself to the Afro-Caribbean dance styles Merengue and Salsa.

James arrived in Adelaide in 2000 and has been an integral part of the Latin scene ever since. He has become a renowned Salsa, Merengue and Bachata dancer and instructor. He has taught as part of many companies and events such as Latino Dance Studio, La Bomba, New Generation, VIP Dance School and currently Latino Grooves.

James has represented South Australia in many national Salsa events. In 2004, James travelled to Sydney for the annual Sydney Latin Fiesta where he won the ‘Sabor Latino’ Award. ‘Sabor’ meaning flavour; it became apparent our James has plenty of it!!! He has also danced at Tropicana Festival where he placed third in the Salsa Competition as well as Sydney Salsa Congress.

This passionate Salsero, Merenguero and Bachatero is also known as DJ Chombo and is a regular at the hottest and most popular Salsa venues in Adelaide where he acts as both MC and DJ. This multi-skilled young man is always the heart and soul of the party!
